Women in American History

*Note: listed event times may not be accurate

Over six days, participants will analyze the legacy and impact of women throughout history. The objective of the week is to learn about the contributions of some of the remarkable women who were prepared to step up and speak out when history demanded action. Topics will include women of the founding, women of the White House, women in government, women as entrepreneurs and women at war. Some of the impactful women we will discuss and explore include Harriet Tubman, Alice Paul, Carrie Hatcher, “Rosie the Riveter,” and Marjorie Post. Through the purview of historical events, we will explore how these women have influenced history in a multitude of ways.

Each day will consist of lectures and discussions led by top historians and academic scholars. Sessions will engage teachers by modeling a variety of pedagogical practices that will integrate into their individual classrooms such as primary source analysis, Socratic seminar, artifact investigation, and demonstrating an understanding of course content by creating sample lessons and classroom activities.

Seminar activities will also incorporate reflective practice through discussion, short analytic responses, and group presentations. Participants will also go on a site exploration of the Alice Paul House and places such as the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. This promises to be a dynamic seminar that is not to be missed!
